The Pebble Rests

What a mess!

Cinderdale Beck
Mill How car park?
Any that know the area will understand that Cinderdale Beck never rises - until now. What with persistent heavy rain and the thaw from the fells the rivers and becks are fuller than we have ever seen. The Beck is rising up Dai's garden and the River Irt is in spate. We have never seen so much water.

Even the car park at Mill How has become a new river and lake.

River Irt

At the same time the ground workers are desperately trying to install all the external services in the garden. The garden is now destroyed and it is difficult to imagine how it can ever be restored but, maybe, spring will help (volunteers may be offered free accommodation, grub and beer).

Somehow the Treatment Plant has been completed, the service trench is almost complete and the rainwater soakaway is well under way.

The Pebble on the move

Also, somehow, the Pebble has been moved and we have accepted that it will be impossible to remove or bury so we have made it a feature in, what will be, its final resting place. It even gets a bit of spring cleaning.

Unbelievably, as we started the rainwater trench we hit Son Of Pebble. Not as grand as Dad but still formidable. The ground workers looked a bit depressed but not so much as Andrew did.

Internal decorating is progressing at a good rate but is revealing some poor plastering. We are going to live with this and carry out remedial works progressively once we move in. Our choice of pastel shades has drawn some comment but we can't stand the thought of Magnolia.

Despite all the carnage the one spot containing the rhubarb has been preserved, much to a number of people's amusement.

The plumbing is continuing and radiators are appearing on walls.

There is evidence that Margaret is becoming interested. Our new bed arrived today and yesterday we selected carpet samples. We now have a 3D kitchen plan available to anyone who expresses interest.

There has been some interesting gossip in the village - Andrew has employed a large yellow machine and has dug some very large, deep holes in the garden. Margaret hasn't been seen for some time!
